X-RAYS AND DIAGNOSTICs in peekskill, NY

Understanding your oral health starts with a thorough evaluation. At Rodriguez DDS General Dentistry, we combine clinical examinations with dental imaging to evaluate your teeth, gums, and supporting bone and help plan your care.

Our family-owned Peekskill practice offers in-office 3D CBCT imaging when a more detailed view is needed. We explain our findings and help you understand your treatment options. Care is available in English and Spanish.

Why Are Dental X-Rays Important?

Some dental concerns cannot be seen during a visual examination alone. X-rays help us evaluate areas between teeth, beneath restorations, and around tooth roots.

Depending on the type of image, dental X-rays can help identify:

  • Cavities between teeth or beneath existing restorations.

  • Changes in the bone supporting your teeth.

  • Signs of infection around tooth roots.

  • Impacted or unerupted teeth.

  • Concerns that require further evaluation or treatment planning.

We interpret your images alongside your examination findings, symptoms, and dental history.

Types of Dental Imaging

Different images answer different questions. We select the type of imaging based on the information needed for your care.

Bitewing X-rays: Show the crowns of upper and lower teeth together, helping us check for cavities between teeth and assess nearby bone levels.

Periapical X-rays: Show an entire tooth, including its roots and surrounding bone, to help evaluate a specific area.

Panoramic X-rays: Provide a broad, two-dimensional view of the teeth and jaws, which can be useful for assessing tooth development, impacted teeth, and other concerns.

3D CBCT imaging: Provides a three-dimensional view for selected cases that require more information than conventional dental X-rays can provide.

In-Office 3D CBCT Imaging

Our CBCT machine captures detailed three-dimensional images of your teeth, jawbone, and surrounding structures.

For dental implant planning, these images help us evaluate bone dimensions and the location of important anatomy, such as nerve canals and sinuses. This information supports individualized planning for implant placement.

CBCT may also assist with selected complex diagnostic concerns. A 3D scan is not needed for every patient or routine checkup; we recommend it when the additional information is clinically necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need X-rays at every dental visit?
Not necessarily. The timing depends on your oral health, symptoms, risk factors, and the images already available.

Why might I need a 3D scan for a dental implant?
A CBCT scan provides information about bone dimensions and surrounding anatomy that helps us plan the implant’s position.

Can I send X-rays from my previous dentist?
Yes. Contact our team for instructions on transferring your records. We’ll review the images and determine whether additional imaging is needed.

Are dental X-rays covered by insurance?
Many dental plans provide benefits for diagnostic imaging, but coverage and frequency limits vary. CBCT benefits may differ from those for routine X-rays. Our team can help you understand your anticipated coverage.
