What to Expect During Treatment

Evaluation: We examine the tooth, review your symptoms, and assess whether it can be restored.

Comfort and isolation: We numb the area and use a dental dam to isolate the tooth during treatment.

Cleaning and sealing: The affected pulp is removed, and the canals are cleaned, shaped, disinfected, and filled. A temporary or permanent restoration is placed as appropriate.

Final restoration: We explain what is needed to protect the tooth afterward and arrange the next appointment.

Treatment may require one or more visits, depending on the tooth and its condition.

When We Refer to an Endodontist

Some root canals require specialized care because of narrow or curved canals, unusual anatomy, previous root canal treatment, or difficulty identifying the source of symptoms.

If your case is too complex for treatment in our office, we’ll refer you to an endodontist for further evaluation and care. We’ll explain the reason for the referral and help coordinate your treatment.

After specialist treatment, our office can provide the recommended final restoration, such as a crown, as part of your ongoing care.

Restoring Your Tooth After a Root Canal

Completing the final restoration is an important part of treatment. The type needed depends on the tooth’s location and how much healthy structure remains.

We’ll explain whether a filling, buildup, crown, or another approach is appropriate. Follow the recommended schedule and avoid heavy chewing on the tooth until it has been fully restored.

Costs, Insurance & Payment Options

The cost depends on the tooth involved, the complexity of treatment, and the restoration needed afterward. A buildup or crown may involve a separate fee from the root canal procedure.

We accept most PPO dental insurance plans and can help you understand your anticipated benefits. If you are referred to an endodontist, that office will provide its own estimate and insurance information.

Financing through Cherry is available for eligible treatment at our office, subject to approval.

Local anesthesia is used to keep you comfortable. Some tenderness can occur afterward. Follow your aftercare instructions and contact the treating office if pain or swelling worsens.
